Day of Travel, Studying and Updating
I left San Francisco early today, noon, because the bad weather was moving in and I did not want to be stuck in ATC delays. I was able to be back home for a day. Tomorrow I am back to work for another 6 days, fun fun.
Got into Phoenix, went to my friends house were I have been working on my essay, the rough draft is almost finished. Which is good. I am so far behind! I need to get up early do a little more work, and than fly to Philadelphia again.
I have been wanting to update this post for the last few days, a lot of flying and not much time to catch up on the news or education news in the last few days.
I have been trying to apply things that I have learned and yes it hard. Its like going to the gym for the first time, fun for the first time but hard to keep going. Then all of a sudden you find it hard not to go.
I am at the being stages.
I got the motivation again which is cool, it is strange where you find it but I am glad I have it.
Time to go and get busy
Thoughts
Tonight, I am in Philadelphia and have gotten some rest because the flight was easy.
Time to get some sleep and hit the books in the morning.
I am also looking forward to see what business news will come out on Monday.
Coming to the hotel we passed a sign get your degree online at Drexel University, the hotel is sandwiched between Drexel University and University of Pennsylvania both which have business schools and online classes. It a good place to get motivation and of course smile because more and more universities are going to online.
Can’t wait for the hologram online classes.
I also think I might go walking tomorrow and check out Wharton School, maybe I can get a couple of questions answered. Worth a walk.
Phoenix
It is a 11:11 p.m. and I have just got done with my laundry, I have been flying today for 11 hours and I am tired. Tomorrow starts early because I have to be at the airport before noon to fly to Philadelphia.
I am hoping that I will be able to get the first essay done this trip. We shall see.
I was looking at Business Week there are some good articles about retirement and the minds of todays employees. I for one do not trust Big Business much any more unless things change in the way they want to do business.
Time for some sleep.
In Las Vegas
Sitting here in the hotel about ready to get some sleep, you get tired from flying not to mention stress from home and bills. It all adds up, takes it toll on you mentally which I think is worse than being physically tired.
I am not getting my essays finished, I have tried to work on them like yesterday in Toronto, Canada but I only was able to get some of it finished.
I need to find motivation, it seem to escape me as of late. It is fast approaching 9:00 p.m. (3rd day out of 8 days) and 3:30 a.m. will becoming earlier for I will be flying Las Vegas to Boston then to Phoenix. It is almost 11 hours of flying arriving back into Phoenix around 7:30 p.m. Go stay with some friends do laundry and be back the airport around 11:00 am to fly to Philadelphia.
You read about some of the companies making a profit, like the one I work for made 58 million one of the few airline this quarter to do so. Congrats to all the hard working men and women who made it all possible. Yet at the same time we have men and women losing their jobs, not being able to pay their bills and many other hardships. I am one of those who is having a hard time, I am not in dire straits but I am now in debt more than I was last September.
I know things will work out, and with school comes knowledge and new opportunities.
But for now one day at a time try to use the things I have learned like the 10,000 hours
Need a change of study
It is a another day that studying get put aside because of life. It is hard to study when you are at home, with family and friends around. That wish to do things.
I think about the book I just read and how they talk about family, and how if (these big successful CEOs) would have spent more time with their family. But they are looking at it from a prospective of having money. Yes money doesn’t by you happiness but it does make things like buying food and paying for the bills easier.
Simple stresses that don’t occur, we (I) face, having to work 13 days in a row only to have 1 day off. I actually have 2 more but I promised to go to Boston with my girlfriend which will be nice then 8 more days in a row. I am hoping to get some studying done on the trip back and forth to Boston, we shall see.
But I know I need to find that blend, for me it is hard because I have a hard time to focus. Sometimes things around me pull my attention, I know that but it doesn’t make it easier. My mind has fallen because I have not keep the training up though I am not worried nothing ever is accomplished by big achievements, it is the little things one by one stepping stones that change the course of history, my history. As long as I keep everyday moving forward, growing everyday, and adjusting my thoughts and actions at the same time keeping my integrity and my beliefs I will succeed.
I have faith in my beliefs and I will not fail in these classes, for it is not an option. I either do or don’t and I choose do. As Hannibal said “We will either find a way or make one”
So with him I will find a way to blend (balance) Family, work and school.
We all sat around tonight to watch 60 minutes, they had a special on Remembering Walter Cronkite. They talked about him being a America icon, someone that will be remember in American History. Yet I don’t think the children that were born after 1980 will or do even know who his is or was unless they wish to get into journalism or broadcasting.
Todays kids remember people like Steve Jobs CEO of Apple the man that brought them the iPod and iPhone. Not saying I don’t know who Steve Jobs is I had an apple computer since I first brought mine back in the early 90′s.
But I also know about Walter Cronkite, it is about education continuous education something we all should strive to do.
As my girlfriend just said “See how much life can change in a day” there is an old chinese verse that talks about if you haven’t seen someone in a couple of days look at them carefully and see what has changed. One of my favorite “Luck favors the prepared mind”
Yes we as a society have been growing, changing and that job 20 years ago don’t exist anymore and tomorrow new ones will be here that know one has dreamed up.
So why should we remember people such as Walter Cronkite, because we shouldn’t become future smart and history dumb
