Getting My MBA at 48

Commuting, Studying, and just Plain Hot!

Sitting at the airport I have 2 hours and some change to wait before I checking in.

It has been hard to study these days, while commuting plus with the added obstacle of reserves it has made things very challenging.

Yesterday, I sat at the airport on call for 5 hours, I was able to get 2 chapters read, with flight attendants moving in and out all the time make for distractions. Since we already know that my brain needs to focus distractions cause attentions deficits for me.

Like now, sitting in Phoenix terminal 4 the place seems like a ghost town compared to last year and yet I sat down in an area with no one around. No sooner than I do a man with his grandfather sat near me and start talking, peace and quiet is sometimes hard to find.

I need to learn how to shut certain parts of my brain off.

Back to yesterday, after 5 fun filled hours at the airport I go back to my friends house picking up some Philippine-Mexican food on the way to take to the house. They have been really nice to me so I try to repay the favors when I can.

Today just like yesterday, it is HOT! a 101 F which just makes everything else hot. After dinner many things were going on and I was to tired to continue to study. I wanted to get up this morning and exercise but I stayed up very late, it was warm and hard for me to sleep, but I do like the quiet time.

I know my system is has been really out of whack lately, I haven’t gotten good rest in a long time, my schedule for flying changes daily, nights to days and then back again. With a little dose of, worrying about when I can find time to study.

I got another chapter done this morning but I am afraid that there won’t be much more the next few days because of flying all day with 9 hour layovers. With that short of layovers there is nothing to do but try and sleep.

I left my friends house early 4 hours early, I know they don’t mind but I try not to over stay my welcome. I get out when I can and head to a coffee shop or some days like today I leave early. I am a guest, and I try to respect their home and leave a quiet footprint.

My Human Resource Management reading will have to be put to rest for the rest of the day, it is time to wrap it up and go through security. I did get my revised essay back today and passed, Yeah! One more classed finished.

I wonder if any security changes have happen today after the AeroMexico flight 576, It is a reminder of what could happen, and I know that many Americans tend to forget this. It reminds me of the day after US Airways flight 1549 went into the Hudson, I was giving the exist seat briefing when an older gentleman responded not with a yes, but with “How much are you going to pay me” My answer to that was “How much is a Human Life worth that how much you get paid” and I turned and walked away.

Be safe and remember that it is not just you in that aircraft, that you share the time and space with others. Be kind, courteous, respectful of others and aware of things around you.
