The End of the Year with a Full (Blue) Moon

Today is the end of the year, saying good-bye to 2009, with a full moon. It will be the second full moon this month, a phenomena that happens approximately every 30 months and has been coined as a Blue Moon.

For us here in the Western Hemisphere we get the pleasure of the full moon ending our year, for those in Sydney, Australia or Tokyo, Japan they will have the pleasure of the 2 full moons for the first month of the New Year 2010

Either way you look at it, I feel it is a great sign, for an awesomely full, bright and Happy New Year.

I am sitting on a flight from San Francisco to Phoenix right now, going in a day early. Why you ask? Well that is easy because I don’t trust the flights tomorrow cancelations and or delays and I need to be able to get to work. (don’t need the added problems that delays or cancelations can cause me) Also I am going in early to spend with my friends, nothing spectacular just some good friends, good conversation and good merriment to ring in the New Year.

I was glad to be off the last day, get some chores done and pick up an extra book I had at home to help me study my Accounting. The Ten Day MBA, written by Steven Silbiger. has great overall information, covering the general information in an easy to understand format.

I have had basically 3 weeks in December to get ahead in this class and I haven’t gotten very far. This month has been tough, because scheduling has had me flying more of these little trips almost everyday I have been on call. I really don’t think I could explain well how flying everyday, short trips with even shorter rest periods taxes you.

Scheduling has given me another 4 day trip, this one is better than the other ones I have been getting, it actually has a long 24 hour overnight in Charlotte, North Carolina.

January starts a whole New Year and a whole New World, My life and my world beginning anew. It will be the year of transformation for me as I finish my MBA in June. As with this Blog, GettingMyMBAat48.com it will be part of My Brand of Me. As the books on rewriting state your resume is an advertisement selling yourself, your brand.

I look forward to sharing my experiences, my thoughts and my dreams with all of you in the next year.

So on that note I have spent the day as a no news day, no CNN, no NY Times, No Business Week or The Wall Street Journal. I decided to take a break from the world of news stories and enjoy my day in bliss.

Really for that matter enjoy my last day of 2009 in bliss. Calm, peaceful and enjoying the energy from the Full Moon.

I leave you all today, wishing that all your hopes and dreams come to fruition, that love and happiness has wrapped it arms around your life and that you experience all the beauty this world and life has to offer.

May you all be BLESSED.

End of Year, Closing in on us all

It is only 3 days and some hours away till we start the New Year. 2010

I have been thinking of my list of to-do’s for 2010. Things I must accomplish next year and yet I still have a few of the ones I haven’t finished for year 2009. Accounting is one of those on the list that needs to be accomplished, for 2009. I will see how much I can finish of that in the next few days.

I have not had the time that I would like to spend on studying, seems I keep getting little trips from scheduling to fill in my days. Today I am going to Seattle, Washington which will give me time to exercise tomorrow morning and hopefully some studying.

Then it back to San francisco, for one night, pay the rent, check mail, water plants kind of day. Studying again will be at a minimum. When you work plus school studying 5 hours a day can be a challenge.

On 31 December and 01 January there are so many trips in open time I really don’t see how scheduling will be able to fill them all. So I am seeing me working a lot again in the next few days, I hope I at least get trips with nice long layovers to study and exercise.

I do have one problem, it seems that so many flight attendants are complaining that they are not working enough and not making money, yet so many are calling in sick, not working, etc., the reasons will astound you I surely am amazed. The only thing it does it puts other flight attendants in a position where scheduling will have them working an excess amount of hours over those days.

I understand scheduling point about not wanting to cancel flights, and I kinda understand flight attendants wanting to be with friends and family. Yet when they choose to not work for all the wacky reasons they can come up with. It only hurts the other flight attendants who originally had the time off and now must work and not be with their friends and family.

For me it is more about study time, working is fine it is just the 4 or 5 legs a day that I don’t want to do. But I will keep plowing away at my school work where I can for it is for the betterment of ME.

I have been reading the news this morning, not much it the way of big news in the MBA world, and business seem to be taking things slow for the last few days of this year.

Break, Need to get ready for work.

Got into Seattle and it is cold, 35F. y The hotel doesn’t have free internet except in the lobby so I will be only staying here for a few minutes.

I was reading the Wall Street Journal, many many pages on the NWA bombing terrorist, but one article about the father was interesting.

The father is a Nigerian Banker and the family is well to do, though he called authorities he never specifics about the threats to the United States they were mostly concerns about his son.

But what I find interesting is that he is from a family of means, and privilege get sent to London, England to earn a degree in engineering. Then falls into a different way of life, one that even shunned his family.

Maybe it would be worth investigating/ studying the children of means, because I see that a lot of parents give their children everything, and are pretty lax on the discipline side of the house.

Just a thought for some professor might make a good study.
