atc delays

Sitting at the Airport in Phoenix

After getting into Phoenix at noon, I went to have some lunch since I wasn’t on-call till 3:00 p.m.

Using up the first 7 hours of my day just to get into Phoenix, I went to my friends house after lunch. Checking my schedule I see that scheduling has gave me a 4 day trip one of the ones that was in open time yesterday that they had already assigned to some. Guess someone else did not want to work.

So back to the airport, I don’t have to be there till 6:50 p.m., but I will take my time.

Sitting upstairs at the airport in Phoenix looking out the window which you can see a lot of the airport plus miles of Phoenix and Scottsdale the storm is moving in.

Within a few moments the skies changed and it is down pouring with rain, SO, DELAYS, DELAYS. You know how weather effects everything.

The cloud cover is low (low ceiling, as some would say) so that will effect the landings and takeoffs of the aircraft. ATC (Air Traffic Control) will space the aircraft out for safety which in turn causes delays.

Snowball effect.

Right now it doesn’t look to bad for the rain.

So I get to go to Dallas, Texas it is a nice 4 day especially since I can get up in the mornings exercise, and study. Best thing is that it isn’t a 4:00 a.m van time.

Ah the little luxuries in Life.

More after I arrive in Dallas.

The flight was easy and quiet, after arriving in Dallas we get the long hotel van ride.

Then Party, seems like there are a few parties going on through out the hotel, and one in the room next to me. So I hope that sleep will come easy and I won’t be bother to much.

I want to get up easy and exercise then study…so till tomorrow night.

All Day in Airports

OK, was it worth going home yesterday to San Francisco? Yes even though it took me 7.5 hours to get there.

Scheduling wouldn’t release me early, no surprises there, but with the ATC delays I was hoping the timing would be right.

Well it wasn’t. The flight Phoenix to San Francisco was suppose to be delayed a little more than 1 hour, boarding at 6:40 p.m. Great I thought, leave a little after 7:00 p.m. How wonderful would that be I could get home earlier.

Well as luck would have it the captain got an earlier release time, so the call came out to board them up and get out of Phoenix.

Now it is again to early for me to risk flying so I opted out to wait for the 9:00 p.m. flight. After leaving the gate to San Francisco the captain gets word we are on a 40 minute delay, flow into San Francisco.

You hear moans and groans through-out the plane, but no sooner than the captain finishes telling the passengers about the delay and that they can use their phones. He gets back on the PA telling everyone that they lifted the 40 minute delay.

Some people cheered, but this one I don’t get. Passengers started complaining that they had just call their family and friends telling them they would be late. Now they had to called their family and friends back to tell them they wouldn’t be late.

I was amazed at how quick people got upset, first for a ATC delay (control the amount of aircraft flying into San Francisco because of bad weather), then getting mad because of having to call family and friends back.

WOW to much stress for me.

I sat back during the flight to watch “Star Trek” it was actually a very good movie. True to the older Star Trek. Great visualizations, and action with a good story line of how the whole crew got together.

Relaxing in the house, getting a few things done was nice, I really didn’t want to work today. Yet I got up early got ready, even though I didn’t get my laundry done I packed up everything and headed for the airport.

Glad I got there early, what a line at security. I haven’t seen one there that long ever. The flight to Phoenix this morning got out on-time so I have been sitting here at the airport since noon. All total 11 hours of airport appreciation today, 2 hours before the flight, 2 hours for the flight time and 7 hours sitting at the airport on Stand-by C, 3:00 p.m. – 3:00 a.m.

Again, just like sitting Hot, I can’t get any studying done. To much traffic of people all talking to each other or their cell phone.

I think I will sit here awhile longer and then go to my friends house.
