Blue Moon
The End of the Year with a Full (Blue) Moon
Today is the end of the year, saying good-bye to 2009, with a full moon. It will be the second full moon this month, a phenomena that happens approximately every 30 months and has been coined as a Blue Moon.
For us here in the Western Hemisphere we get the pleasure of the full moon ending our year, for those in Sydney, Australia or Tokyo, Japan they will have the pleasure of the 2 full moons for the first month of the New Year 2010
Either way you look at it, I feel it is a great sign, for an awesomely full, bright and Happy New Year.
I am sitting on a flight from San Francisco to Phoenix right now, going in a day early. Why you ask? Well that is easy because I don’t trust the flights tomorrow cancelations and or delays and I need to be able to get to work. (don’t need the added problems that delays or cancelations can cause me) Also I am going in early to spend with my friends, nothing spectacular just some good friends, good conversation and good merriment to ring in the New Year.
I was glad to be off the last day, get some chores done and pick up an extra book I had at home to help me study my Accounting. The Ten Day MBA, written by Steven Silbiger. has great overall information, covering the general information in an easy to understand format.
I have had basically 3 weeks in December to get ahead in this class and I haven’t gotten very far. This month has been tough, because scheduling has had me flying more of these little trips almost everyday I have been on call. I really don’t think I could explain well how flying everyday, short trips with even shorter rest periods taxes you.
Scheduling has given me another 4 day trip, this one is better than the other ones I have been getting, it actually has a long 24 hour overnight in Charlotte, North Carolina.
January starts a whole New Year and a whole New World, My life and my world beginning anew. It will be the year of transformation for me as I finish my MBA in June. As with this Blog, GettingMyMBAat48.com it will be part of My Brand of Me. As the books on rewriting state your resume is an advertisement selling yourself, your brand.
I look forward to sharing my experiences, my thoughts and my dreams with all of you in the next year.
So on that note I have spent the day as a no news day, no CNN, no NY Times, No Business Week or The Wall Street Journal. I decided to take a break from the world of news stories and enjoy my day in bliss.
Really for that matter enjoy my last day of 2009 in bliss. Calm, peaceful and enjoying the energy from the Full Moon.
I leave you all today, wishing that all your hopes and dreams come to fruition, that love and happiness has wrapped it arms around your life and that you experience all the beauty this world and life has to offer.
May you all be BLESSED.
Tomorrow is a Blue Moon
It has been a long day, I have been up since 4:00 a.m. our flight from Denver was delayed 2 hours this morning while they sent a plane up to Denver.
After I had missed the first 2 flights to San Francisco, so I had to wait 3 more hours till 2:50 p.m. so I got to late in the afternoon.
I have to admit, I have enjoyed being here in my own space, alone to do what I want to do which is nice. I have laundry and getting things ready for going back to Phoenix for my next trip.
I am having a hard time staying awake, but I need to stay up for awhile before sleeping.
The news has been focused on just a few things like the terrorist bomber of NWA flight 253, which is good but our news media always over does things repeating stories till they kill them by every way imaginable.
The LA Times has a good article “Peter Drucker’s revolutionary teachings decades old but still fresh” by Michael Hiltzik. Peter F Drucker ideas again are becoming refreshed.
One in which the article talks about is
“Drucker showed that there is no “inherent contradiction between profit and a company’s need to make a social contribution,” but that the former is indispensable to achieve the latter.” from the article by Michael Hiltzik. 31 Dec 2009
There are some books about him and his ideas that I would like to read, but until I can get caught up on everything else those will have to wait.
Speaking of CEO’s that try and run a good company and treat employees and customers well is Continental Airlines, in the past they have had CEO Gordon Bethune who turn the reins over to CEO Larry Kellner who has run the company for the last 5 years.
Now Kellner is turning the job of running the countries 4th largest U.S. carrier to the man who has been sitting in the number 2 executive position for the last 5 years Jeff Smisek. He seems like that he will keep the airline running in the same direction. Just adding touches to enhance an already good product.
Tomorrow will be a Blue Moon, more on this tomorrow. I love watching the full moon and getting the energy from it.
