Human Resource Management
I Think its a Beautiful Day in Houston
Since I have not been outside yet I think is nice outside as much as I can see from the window. I have gotten up exercised and studied some and now I am getting ready for work.
I have to mention yesterday I was reading articles in the Wall Street Journal and the AppleInsider during my airport time and or a lack of a better words right now there was an article that pissed me off.
I guess in a good way because on the flight to Phoenix, I got this really great idea for a business that I pretty sure no one has thought of before or I would have already seen it.
Now I really need to bend time, get support from Family and Friends, to get my MBA finished by June and have this up and running before then, God and the Spirits willing.
So with exercising, studying and working on this project, (sorry I can’t talk about it yet, don’t want to give away the goodies) and family I guess I am going to live a Spartan life.
Discipline and time mastery
Exciting times, and these four quote by 3 famous men are the makings of an inspiring day.
“Did you ever observe to whom the accidents happen? Chance favors only the prepared mind.” – Louis Pasteur. (Shorten version, Luck favors the prepared mind)
“When you work seven days a week, fourteen hours a day, you get lucky.”
“We will either find a way or make one” Hannibal (Hannibal’s feat in crossing the Alps with war elephants passed into European legend: a fresco detail, ca. 1510, Capitoline Museums, Rome, incase any one out there is confused who Hannibal is)
“The mind, once expanded to the dimensions of larger ideas, never returns to its original size.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.
Not to meant some great music to get your mood on the right side of excellent.
It is Cold here in Philadelphia
So after arriving here in Philadelphia, it is cold too cold. We had to wait for the van for almost 1 hour it is always that way here. Terrible.
It is funny you have 24 hours here but with the travel time (waiting for the vans) and having to sleep twice in those 24 hours really starts cutting into the time you have.
After exercising I wanted food but the grocery store is to far, so I opted for the convenience store and got some fresh orange juice and a hot dog. The orange juice is on in my window ledge refrigerator, it will stay cold enough, hope it don’t freeze.
I have been able to do a little studying but it is starting to get late and I need to get read for tomorrow. Such the glamorous life.
The last few days have been a strange eye opening, because I haven’t been doing much. I got into San Francisco on Tuesday the 5th of January. As I wrote in the other post I feel home lost. It was so nice to be in my own space not worrying about where I am at, who’s house, walking on eggshells, or being in a hotel room.
I have as some call it nesting, for me it was more about decompressing. Even though I feel better there are things that I am not sure about, so I need to see what happens
I do know that I need to get school finished, I have to, I don’t have a choice.
I know you always have a choice in life, but with this that is my choice. That I have to do this, finish move up.
I like working in the airline industry but the travelers are such a pain. So many people have no concept of politeness, or courtesy when it comes to others. They only think about themselves and really don’t understand that they are in an airplane with 18o other passengers.
Maybe I just need a vacation, since I haven’t had one in 2 years.
12 hours again, and getting blamed
I spent the last 12 hours, waiting again, terrible. To add insult to injury I got in trouble from work something that happened a week ago… to make a long story short the company is going back to blaming everyone else. Not fixing the problems, talking and offering solutions it just find the last person in the chain and they put all the blame on them.
It is crazy because I called to talk to my supervisor, and got another one who gave me the 5 degree with simplified logic.
Ok I need to stop before I go off again, but this company only promotes people to supervisors that are not reasonable. Those that are have not lasted as supervisor in this company.
I was reading an article on CNN, World’s beat companies for leaders it is interesting what good companies do in building leaders, verses no program to grow within a company, no training programs.
I feel I need a “Individual Development Plan,” General Mills has all it’s employee create one. It is time to get focused, relaxed, a clear head and go for what I want, I think putting down looking at it everyday, add and modify as necessary.
Kinda like my COS (course of study) for my classes, I spent most of the day setting up for ACP1, accounting. Though I am going to have to figure out how to buy the book, which is around $212, reading Accounting 7e by Horngren, C.T. & Harrison, W.T. (2007) since reading through the school is online, hard at best, difficult since you need a internet connection. With traveling so much that is a going to be a challenge.
I have 4 essays I have even counted how many skillsoft modules but it is more than 10 at 2 hours each, lots of time.
The plan is to have this class done by the 31st of December, but since it isn’t due till next semester I can work with less stress so I can do a better job.
So I am about to end the night so I can get up early and work on my development (vision) plan.
Life Happens
In fact I like this saying,
I was reading an article today on Business Week, entitled “MBA Dropouts: Business School, Interrupted” by Francesca Di Meglio.
It talks about student where things happen while they are in school, job offers, family, military, etc., and they take time off to take care of what ever it is and that most schools let them come back and finish.
For me “Life Happened”
and I was given an opportunity to go to fully accredited on-line school, Western Governors University to get my MBA. With the way my work is flying 4-5 days a week it would make it hard to go to a conventional university. I feel that life happened to me with a great opportunity.
Though I would recommend WGU to anyone, and have it is not as easy as just going on-line
There is a lot of work involved, self discipline, and self motivation. But for me it fits, allows me to better myself, obtain my goals, have my work and family life too.
I just a little while I will be flying to Phoenix from San Francisco, which will give me 2 hours of reading/studying time, then later tonight at my friends I can get a few more hours in before getting rest and working tomorrow.
I now also post a blog on Business Week / matthewpriester
My 60th and Google’s 11th
Taking a break from studying, let me tell you tough! reading, taking notes, and preparing for my Test on the 24th, crazy.
It is going good, slow but good, learning to learn all over again keeps throwing new challenges my way.
So today is my 60th post and Google turns 11 today and with that I feel as the title of the new TV show “Men of a Certain Age,” that is how I feel today too, of a certain age.
It has been a beautiful day here in sunny Burlingame, I got up and enjoyed the morning. Set out my study material and got busy. Taking breaks going for a few walks and doing laundry.
I understand what Anthony Robbins talks about breaking old patterns in his book Awaken the Giant Within, that if you change a pattern or break a pattern immediately, you should replace it with an empowering process. Otherwise you can and usually do go right back to where you were.
I felt myself slipping this morning letting outside influences take control of my life. So I made a conscious change and while I am thinking about it I think I will read a little from the book tonight.
So much to read, and study I need a month straight, time off to read, exercise an meditate/focus. Hmm I wonder I’ll have to get back with you on that one.
Today I have been working on Human Resource Management taking notes wish I could type faster I could have more done.
Well that was pretty much my day, and counting down till the 24th and my test.
A little motivational reading tonight.
