11 hours of Kill time, UGH!

I have spent 11 hours killing tome today, because as I would say I am house lost.

After getting here this morning from Charlotte, North Carolina which was about 10.30 a.m. I went over to the coffee shop to sit and study, since I really have no were else to go.

I fist stop and got my bebe washed, my truck has been very good to me so I am trying to take care of her.

I was getting so tired at the coffee shop, that I was falling asleep while I was reading again, this is becoming such a drag. 3 cups of coffee and I am still tired and could fall asleep at any time.

I stayed until after 4:00 p.m. reading about ESO (stock options) some is starting to sink in thank god. But I have lots more to read for the essays. But I am feeling better about them.

I left to go by a friends restaurant FnB, but he was closed today, I have to say that he made it into the New York Times Sunday Edition, Business section.

Everybody:  A Balance Between the Factory and the Local Farm , great article on Pavle, and my hats off to him for serving only Arizona wines at his restaurant, which by the way is in Old Town, Scottsdale. It is a great restaurant with good food and a great host and an excellent chef.

You really should stop in.

After finding that he has taken Mondays off (which is a good thing he works to much) I came back to my friends house, she wasn’t here so I decided to go for a walk, a 3 mile walk which took me about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Not bad I guess, but I know that I needed the exercise. I have to get back into it.

Then I just waited til my friend showed up at her home. So that was my 11 hours of killing time with no where to really go.

That is why I feel home lost. It really is not a comfortable feeling.

So tomorrow I have HR 4, noon till 5:00 p.m. sitting at the airport, which the only thing they can use me for is boarding planes or a turn. Maybe I’ll get to go home at 5, one never knows.

See you tomorrow at the airport.

The End of the Year with a Full (Blue) Moon

Today is the end of the year, saying good-bye to 2009, with a full moon. It will be the second full moon this month, a phenomena that happens approximately every 30 months and has been coined as a Blue Moon.

For us here in the Western Hemisphere we get the pleasure of the full moon ending our year, for those in Sydney, Australia or Tokyo, Japan they will have the pleasure of the 2 full moons for the first month of the New Year 2010

Either way you look at it, I feel it is a great sign, for an awesomely full, bright and Happy New Year.

I am sitting on a flight from San Francisco to Phoenix right now, going in a day early. Why you ask? Well that is easy because I don’t trust the flights tomorrow cancelations and or delays and I need to be able to get to work. (don’t need the added problems that delays or cancelations can cause me) Also I am going in early to spend with my friends, nothing spectacular just some good friends, good conversation and good merriment to ring in the New Year.

I was glad to be off the last day, get some chores done and pick up an extra book I had at home to help me study my Accounting. The Ten Day MBA, written by Steven Silbiger. has great overall information, covering the general information in an easy to understand format.

I have had basically 3 weeks in December to get ahead in this class and I haven’t gotten very far. This month has been tough, because scheduling has had me flying more of these little trips almost everyday I have been on call. I really don’t think I could explain well how flying everyday, short trips with even shorter rest periods taxes you.

Scheduling has given me another 4 day trip, this one is better than the other ones I have been getting, it actually has a long 24 hour overnight in Charlotte, North Carolina.

January starts a whole New Year and a whole New World, My life and my world beginning anew. It will be the year of transformation for me as I finish my MBA in June. As with this Blog, GettingMyMBAat48.com it will be part of My Brand of Me. As the books on rewriting state your resume is an advertisement selling yourself, your brand.

I look forward to sharing my experiences, my thoughts and my dreams with all of you in the next year.

So on that note I have spent the day as a no news day, no CNN, no NY Times, No Business Week or The Wall Street Journal. I decided to take a break from the world of news stories and enjoy my day in bliss.

Really for that matter enjoy my last day of 2009 in bliss. Calm, peaceful and enjoying the energy from the Full Moon.

I leave you all today, wishing that all your hopes and dreams come to fruition, that love and happiness has wrapped it arms around your life and that you experience all the beauty this world and life has to offer.

May you all be BLESSED.

Beautiful Day

It has been a beautiful sunny day in Phoenix, while the east coast is getting hammer with snow. I am sure that the airlines are getting behind with snow major delays.

It has been a relaxing day, I tried to get some Accounting done but I have been as some would say “a little down” so it has been hard to concentrate. Just like work, scheduling controlling my schedule it ways heavy on my attitude.

Just found out the snow storms have changed my trip tomorrow, actually this is for the better. Instead of 2 legs a day (Phoenix – Chicago – Philadelphia) then back the next day. Now it is just Phoenix – Chicago overnight for 16 hours, which is cool because I can get some exercising and homework done.

A bright spot.

I was reading Business Week, and the article “The MBA, a Little Less Taxing” by Francesca Di Meglio, it is a good article to get you prepared for the tax season. I know I get to do my taxes different this year because of school, so it is a good reminder of how to get prepared.

I have to start getting all my receipts in one place, so I can get some help at the beginning of the year.

I also need to organize my life a little better, just feel that things are getting out of control. Mostly because of work where I can’t control my schedule.

I did get to read all the news today, even the Wall Street Journal from yesterday. One of the articles in the Los Angeles Times was about The Huffington Post and it making a profit. It also said that it receives 9 million unique visitors a day behind the New York Times that receives 16.6 million unique visitors a day. That would be so cool to have 9 million unique visitors a day. I am happy when it hits 40 to 50 unique visitors a day.

I am not sure I will hit that status with this site because next June I will be finish getting my MBA.

I sure enjoy writing even though some days it is hard to keep up. But just like my classes it is the same as I say.

I am my own taskmaster and my own slave

Discipline and persistence.

3 days, 12 hours each day, WOW

It is incredible that I have had to sit here for 3 days, not that I am complaining, I’m not. It is just draining sitting all day waiting to be called out for a trip.

Good news is I have time to study, even though I have had a headache for the last 2 nights, maybe it is looking at the computer screen all day. But since for my next class the book is online, and hard to read, it is scanned at a low resolution to discourage copying I am guessing it is very hard on the eyes.

I started working on my vision plan, and looking for jobs. Which that in its self takes up lots of time, it is amazing how many posting for jobs are out there on the internet.

I have read a lot about job searches, resumes, career paths, on site like Business Week, CNN,and the New York Times, yet the most interesting one I have read about talks about not job security but career security. In this day and age upwardly mobile has a whole new meaning when it comes to jobs, careers, and career searches. One has to think differently in a job market for career security.

After reading the accounting book online today, I realize careers are like accounting or in the case of the hit CBS show Numb3rs all about the numbers. I can direct my career with the balance sheet. Design my plan using some theoretical equation and puff its done. Well I know that it isn’t that simple but the check and balances or pros and cons systems will help to work out which direction I want to go with my career after I graduate.

After a long day I had to have a discussion with my bank today Chase, I wasn’t going to call them about why they were charging me 2 overdrafts and was going to let it go until today, when I started receiving emails, 3 to be exact that my account was overdrawn. Panic! right, who wouldn’t especially when the ones that just happened were from before were 5 days ago now more. OH NO!!

Well I got on the phone, the representative from Chase was nice, and didn’t know why I was receiving the emails that my account was fine. She said it must be a glitch in the system, well then I started talking about the glitch in the system to their favor in how they change payments to collect 2 overdrafts of $32 each. How that I can go and take my cookies to any bank because they are all offering the same thing, NOTHING!

I said some more about Chase not being WaMu, and I really didn’t mean to go into everything. Must be the 12 hour days making me crazy.

The representative from Chase came back on the phone and told me she would reverse the charges, well I thought that it was cool of them and I apologized for being heated in my tone of voice.

I think that the banks should be nice to its customers, since the government is using our tax money for their bailout, and quit trying to get rich on the backs of the work class.

So I look forward to tomorrow, studying in the morning and flying home in the afternoon.

Goodnight for now.

But I am going to have to fork over the $123 or so for the accounting book my eyes can’t take reading online that long. So I will have to find a good cheap one in the morning.

A Long Day of Studying

I have been waiting all night and most of the day to see if I was going to be called out. I have been trying to study most of the morning but the reading has been slow.

I was looking through the New York Times and there was an article about the changing scope of Universities because of budgets. The article is “At Public Universities: Less is More” by Paul Fain. The article first talks about a senior who attends the University of California, Los Angeles and needs 3 classes to get financial aid and the classes she needs to graduate they are not offering.

That I think is flat out wrong. A University has the obligation to help it students, if it say there are certain classes one must complete. Then they should offer that class till all students have full filled those requirements or the university should let the substitute those classes.

But here is the real reason the classes are closing, it because of budgets. UCLA is facing a $131 million shortfall and are cutting 165 course. Yet UCLA is the only one. It is a good article of what is happening to our Universities.

Rising tuition

A complement to that article is on CNN, “Private college presidents: 23 earn $1 million” by Ben Rooney, CNNMoney staff reporter. Sounds like Private Universities are becoming large corporation and paying the President extremely well. Guess you know where your money is going.

Though I wish I could go to a brick and mortar university, I am happy that I am able to go to a Western Governors University. I affords me the opportunity for a better education, while still working. Plus it is affordable.

I am learning a lot, challenged everyday to find creative ways to studying in the mist of life, sometimes I have to modify 2 and 3 times a day.

It all good.
