I Think its a Beautiful Day in Houston
Since I have not been outside yet I think is nice outside as much as I can see from the window. I have gotten up exercised and studied some and now I am getting ready for work.
I have to mention yesterday I was reading articles in the Wall Street Journal and the AppleInsider during my airport time and or a lack of a better words right now there was an article that pissed me off.
I guess in a good way because on the flight to Phoenix, I got this really great idea for a business that I pretty sure no one has thought of before or I would have already seen it.
Now I really need to bend time, get support from Family and Friends, to get my MBA finished by June and have this up and running before then, God and the Spirits willing.
So with exercising, studying and working on this project, (sorry I can’t talk about it yet, don’t want to give away the goodies) and family I guess I am going to live a Spartan life.
Discipline and time mastery
Exciting times, and these four quote by 3 famous men are the makings of an inspiring day.
“Did you ever observe to whom the accidents happen? Chance favors only the prepared mind.” – Louis Pasteur. (Shorten version, Luck favors the prepared mind)
“When you work seven days a week, fourteen hours a day, you get lucky.”
“We will either find a way or make one” Hannibal (Hannibal’s feat in crossing the Alps with war elephants passed into European legend: a fresco detail, ca. 1510, Capitoline Museums, Rome, incase any one out there is confused who Hannibal is)
“The mind, once expanded to the dimensions of larger ideas, never returns to its original size.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.
Not to meant some great music to get your mood on the right side of excellent.
In Pittsburgh, with a Dilemma
I am here in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, were it is cold to some people, 37F chance of snow. It looks nice from the window but not sure today would be a day I wanted to play in the snow.
But back to the dilemma, I need to work on my essays for school, but I also need to pick up more hours (money), So today do I go back to San Francisco or stay in Phoenix?
San Francisco, I could get some studying done, sleep in my own bed but use up a lot of hours just commuting back and forth or Phoenix where I could get some studying done, sleep at a friends on the couch and have all those extra hours I wouldn’t be commuting for studying.
It is tough, like I have said before I feel home lost.
I know that I need to get both things accomplished school and work, and this trip though it looks good and no early morning check-ins, I have only been able to exercise and get some studying done.
I tried last night but the internet here at this hotel in Pittsburgh reminds me of the good old days of dial-up, slower than slow.
I do like Pittsburgh, I like the view out the window, but I feel Pittsburgh is fading like Detroit, because the corporations have moved out leaving the cities and people to fend for themselves.
Sad there is so much Rich American History in both places.
Time to finish getting ready and fly to Phoenix. I’ll let you know what happens.
So I opted to stay in Phoenix, I picked up a trip that reports at 5:40 a.m. in Phoenix which means getting up Thursday morning at 3:00 a.m. OUCH!!!
So flying home last night just to have to fly back this afternoon would have been hard, and long hours. Staying in Phoenix, my friends are great and even though I always sleep it not a good sleep.
But I am thankful
A Day at the Beach, don’t I wish
Yes sitting at the airport for 5 hours was just a thrill, no it not a day at the beach but I do get to see people I haven’t seen in awhile and that makes it fun.
As always it is hard to study, to much going on. To many conversations all at the same time, it gives you a head ache. So to avoid the talking I went for 1 hour and 40 minutes walk around the balcony, it took 1 minute and or 93 steps to complete. Walking for a 100 minutes = 100 laps or 9300 steps. Actually it felt good.
Nice to have the movement, I need it.
Not much happened at all the rest of the day, I did not pay attention to the news though I did inquire as to the cost of an online subscription to the Wall Street Journal, because the New York Times is thinking of a cost between $9.99 to 30.00 a month.
For the new iPad, which is ridiculous because I certainly wouldn’t pay that amount and I don’t think that they will get many that will pay that kind of money for online reading.
Even with the success of Apple’s iTunes companies have complained about Apple’s pricing strategy of $.99 yet they are now after 7 years approaching 10 billion downloads.
Apple has let some make pricing adjustments, (raise the price) yet download have drop 8 to 10 percent every month since companies have been changing the prices.
Me I really believe $.99 per song is a good price and I have to say that of all the downloads at least 20 percent have been the album anyway not just a song.
But I don’t think corporate America will wake up to that fact, it is always trying to push more and more out of the consumer.
At 5:45 I got on the flight back to San Francisco, totally filled as always. Who says people are not flying. It was a pleasant flight with no real mishaps.
I will have to go back in on Friday, but it leaves me with 2 full days of studying, exercising and scanning.
So I am off for a bit a reading before lights out.
Sitting in the Cold
Yesterday the first day of the New Year and instead of being able to relax at home, or with friends I have to fly. Pick up slack of all the sick calls.
I was very tired having been up all day with only a few hours of sleep, then had to fly all night. So today is a limbo day, since you need to sleep twice in the same day.
After exercising and breakfast I went for a walk stopping by Target and Trader Joe’s to do some food shopping and have a nice healthy lunch. It is funny how the temperature has dropped, at the hotel in Charlotte right now it is 35F outside. Guess what I don’t need a refrigerator for any of the food I brought.
It is a New Year with new ideas, new dreams and new classes, which I have 5 left. So now even though I don’t have much time I have now no choice in getting theses classes finished.
I have been behind, for no other reason than it has been difficult since everyday has been a guess at where I am going to be, how much time will I have or where can I do it.
So now I need a plan, because I have to work extra this month, (at least some of the time I will know what my schedule is). This is going to be a bigger challenge than in the past.
Accounting is a butt kicker, but let see who kicks harder.
As for work, there have been many sick calls, causing cancelation across the system plus having a limited amount of reserves to cover flight makes for tough times. Plus I have heard pilots from the other half of our airline are doing something they have had more cancelations than our side.
So it will be interesting to see what happens with our trips in the morning. For me (even though I feel for the passengers) staying here the whole day would really really help studying.
I did not even get to read the Wall Street Journal, but I have it for later.
So I need to repack, get ready for tomorrow festivities.
The End of the Year with a Full (Blue) Moon
Today is the end of the year, saying good-bye to 2009, with a full moon. It will be the second full moon this month, a phenomena that happens approximately every 30 months and has been coined as a Blue Moon.
For us here in the Western Hemisphere we get the pleasure of the full moon ending our year, for those in Sydney, Australia or Tokyo, Japan they will have the pleasure of the 2 full moons for the first month of the New Year 2010
Either way you look at it, I feel it is a great sign, for an awesomely full, bright and Happy New Year.
I am sitting on a flight from San Francisco to Phoenix right now, going in a day early. Why you ask? Well that is easy because I don’t trust the flights tomorrow cancelations and or delays and I need to be able to get to work. (don’t need the added problems that delays or cancelations can cause me) Also I am going in early to spend with my friends, nothing spectacular just some good friends, good conversation and good merriment to ring in the New Year.
I was glad to be off the last day, get some chores done and pick up an extra book I had at home to help me study my Accounting. The Ten Day MBA, written by Steven Silbiger. has great overall information, covering the general information in an easy to understand format.
I have had basically 3 weeks in December to get ahead in this class and I haven’t gotten very far. This month has been tough, because scheduling has had me flying more of these little trips almost everyday I have been on call. I really don’t think I could explain well how flying everyday, short trips with even shorter rest periods taxes you.
Scheduling has given me another 4 day trip, this one is better than the other ones I have been getting, it actually has a long 24 hour overnight in Charlotte, North Carolina.
January starts a whole New Year and a whole New World, My life and my world beginning anew. It will be the year of transformation for me as I finish my MBA in June. As with this Blog, GettingMyMBAat48.com it will be part of My Brand of Me. As the books on rewriting state your resume is an advertisement selling yourself, your brand.
I look forward to sharing my experiences, my thoughts and my dreams with all of you in the next year.
So on that note I have spent the day as a no news day, no CNN, no NY Times, No Business Week or The Wall Street Journal. I decided to take a break from the world of news stories and enjoy my day in bliss.
Really for that matter enjoy my last day of 2009 in bliss. Calm, peaceful and enjoying the energy from the Full Moon.
I leave you all today, wishing that all your hopes and dreams come to fruition, that love and happiness has wrapped it arms around your life and that you experience all the beauty this world and life has to offer.
May you all be BLESSED.
